Roaming profile "must have" folders
Hello,We're currently setting up roaming profiles for our business. The main problem is that the roaming profiles keep exceeding the profile storage space. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what are the "must have" folders that should be included in a roaming profile? For example do we really need to include all the folders in Application data and Local settings? (FYI "My Documents" have already been excluded as they are being redirected to another server). Any help or links that will point me in the right direction will be greatly appreciated.Paula 1 person got this answerI do too

Local Settings is not normally included in roaming profiles. It contains the temp folders and Outlook mailstore, which tends to make it big.Application Data tends to contain settings for specific programs, so you'd have to evaluate that on the basis of what's used on your site. Though, excluding it in its entirety could lead to problems in some cases.Other than that I would suggest WinDirStat as a useful tool for finding-out where the space is going.http://windirstat.info/On the subject of roaming profiles, I find that a lot of clients seem to think they should automatically 'have their own files' no matter where they log-on, but at the same time need exercise no tidiness about what they store and where. I tell then that this is functionally a case of expecting to have your bread buttered both sides and getting to eat it! In practice some policy decisions need to be made as to whether the roaming profile route is applicable to your site, and if so whether users can be expected to comply with its constraints. If they can't/won't do so then I would suggest it's not a good route to take, especially as oversize profiles will lead to very slow logons. Also bear in mind you're in for real headaches if you want to introduce Windows 7 computers - the profiles are not compatible, and what happens here is that the roaming user develops a split personality.
